Fasting Tips


  1. Spin around in circles, it will make you too dizzy and nauseous to eat.
  2. Always have water with you.
  3. Drink ice cold water when possible.
  4. If you feel hungry, drink some hot green tea, the heat can suppress your appetite.
  5. Caffeine suppresses your appetite as well.
  6. Chew sugar free gum.
  7. Take a nap.
  8. Read.
  9. Clean something.
  10. Take a shower or bath.
  11. Whiten your teeth.
  12. Go for a run.
  13. Do some crunches.
  14. Stretch.
  15. Do yoga.
  16. Try enjoying hunger pangs.
  17. Weigh yourself.
  18. Look at your self naked and pinch your fat.
  19. Take a nice long walk, with or without your dog.
  20. Try 0 calorie Mio water enhancers.
  21. Look at thinspo if you feel hungry.
  22. Go on Pro Ana blogs.
  23. Make a Fasting Journal and write about how you feel during the fast, why you want to fast, and the benefits of fasting.
  24. Make a list of "bad" foods. Periodically, cross one of the list and pledge to never, ever eat it again. Eventually there will be none left.
  25. Munch on some ice, it will trick your brain.
  26. Make your own list of tips you think will help you.
  27. Always have a To-Do list so you are never bored.
  28. Try to stick to plain, distilled water. Zero calorie soda can make you gain weight in the long run, but if you feel it is necessary, go ahead and drink DIET drinks only.
  29. Watch people eat and notice how disgusting it looks.
  30. Dance like crazy to an upbeat song.
  31. Make an After-Fast food plan to slowly introduce different foods back into your diet so you don't gain all the weight back.
  32. Make a weight loss blog, you wouldn't want to disappoint your followers by failing your fast, right?
  33. If you're new to fasting, try a juice fast first.
  34. NEVER break a fast with a heavy meal.
  35. The first 3 days are the hardest, so just think about how good you'll feel once you conquer those 3 days..
  36. Eat light the night before you begin the fast.
  37. Try drinking a large glass of water at least once every hour.
  38. Be prepared!

    1. I did 3 weeks without so much as a glass of milk; but I don't recommend it - I also walked at least 2 hours/day during this fast. I was not planning a fast, but something happened in my life that shook me to the core! When I am upset, I CANNOT eat. The very thought of food makes me want to heave. In the 3 week period, I lost about 10 lbs - but I felt like shit - the situation righted itself finally; don't remember my first meal after, but was very light; even though, it gave me the "trots"

    2. I love this site. Thank you so much for the tips. I am new to being ana. So far I follow your rule of no food after 7. I just made the Sacred Heart soup today and will start the diet tomorrow, Today I cut my meal into very small bites and drank water after every 3 bites. It was so disgusting to see how my friends wolfed down theirs in 5 mins...i used to do that. I am 5'2" and 142lbs. I am 44 yrs old and have 2 kids one was c-section. Please help me do this .     2. I was starting my first day fast. Today actually. And my mom sorta knows. She goes all up like " if u don't eat . I'll never talk to u again" and all those sentimental stuff. I just wanna lose weight. She forced me to drink Milo which has like 80-110 calories. She just doesn't get it.

    3. If you are really, really overweight (I never use the word FAT - it is a totally negative word to describe a person and lacks hope. Overweight however, suggests something that can be overcome) tell your Mom that your present condition will lead to health complications later in life. If you do not lose the weight, you may die before your time and she certainly will not be talking to you THEN! In fact, she may end up raising her own grand children if you have kids and drop dead from a weight-related illness

    4. This is sick to be telling a minor this. Absolutely wrong. You could always run, walk, dance, do yoga, cut out all junk food, eat HEALTHY homemade meals, drink tons of tea water. Hell you could turn a once a day dog walk into a dailey low maintenance workout. You could youtube workout videos for cardio, there are so many other ways to this weight safely.     4. Have you heavily restricted before? If not, you should start out with lowering your calorie intake. Start 500 lower than you need, and decrease by 500 every week. Otherwise, you'll go crazy and binge. Then either fast or go on the abc diet.

    5. You need to eat something, or else your body will retaliate and you will end up binging! Go for LOW CAL veggies & fruits. I cut my intake in half for now, once my body gets used of that intake, I will reduce it further! But for now, when I eat, its always fruits, veggies & fish! Good luck!

    9. i'm sure you are more than pure disgusting fat ... after all, do you define a person by how they look? ... those who do are the lowest, they are dumb and don't deserve even one bit of your attention..... i'm sure there is much more to you than your body .... your likes and dislikes, your humour and .. well just you ... you are you and in your own personal way you are amazing =)

      and believe me starving is not the way to go when you want to loose weight permanently and in a healthy and good looking way ... starving makes you look like a skeleton (do skeletons look appealing to you? ), you will get hairs all over your body to keep you warm (since you lost all the fat that usually keeps the body warm), your nails will crack, you will lose your breast fat so that it will look as if you don't have any ... and there is much more

      best way to loose weight is first of, to get informed ... which food is healthy, what nutritions does my body need per day and so on ... maybe get some help from an expert ... and do sports ... swimming is one of the healthiest best sports to loose weight and train your muscles .... and maybe if the weather is nice, instead of using the car, use your bike ;)
      there is soo much more you can do, but that's for you to find out ;)

      i really hope you will someday be comfortable within your own skin ... i never had a problem with my weight, rather with the way i look all over ... i got mobbed in school and thought about killing myself ... now i'm much older and i'm starting to see just what an awesome person i really am and i like what i see when i look in the mirror ... you can get there too if you go about it the right way ... the right way is not always the easiest way ... loosing weight the healthy way takes much muuuch longer than just starving ... but who said doing the right thing is easy ^^

    10. very true - the less you eat, the less you want. Try not to get in a position where you do not want food at all - that CAN HAPPEN! This the reason so many Ana's starve to death: food just becomes no longer part of their life.

    11. To the girl who weighs 194 lbs: fasting is not your answer. That's too much to lose fasting (you don't say how tall you are or what your goal weight is) You need to see a doctor, preferably a nutritionist. I have never suggested "club dieting" before because most diet groups are nuts: not that you would be allowed to eat nuts. Make an appointment with a counsellor for "Weight Watchers" - they are the sanest diet group I know of; you will not have to eat only grapefruit for a week and then switch to heavy duty bran products the next.

      Fasting is not the answer for someone very overweight; it can help you drop 5-10 lbs, depending on how you do it, but if carried to extremes, can really harm your health long-term. .

    12. If you fast, not the best way. Take 2 pills a day of Vitamins and minerals. It is NOT TRUE that those pills will make u to gain weight. I have been taking those pills for decades and my weight is 49 Kilogrames (my gosl is 44) My height 1.64 cm - BMI:18 (I am starting again for my BMI used to be 16 !) You will not feel hungry. 2) Your body will have the things it requires not to get sick and 3) you will loose weight easily and 4) everybody will envy your beutiness!! hahh :)

  5. I prefer not to eat at all. I made myself a salad the other day and felt so full i had to purge it back up. I've bought some multivitamins to take morning with my banana and then i don't eat all day, although i drink sugarless tea with a drop of milk, which i hate myself for. What are peoles opinions of Dextrose tablets? They're 8 cals a piece, would you advise to steer away from them?

    3. how do you get yourself to not eat? I eat super healthy, and but eat no more than 800 calories a day. lately i have been slacking and gained 3 pounds. Im back to going strict ! 600 calories a day, writing down everything i eat, and hopefully i can lose 3 pounce by sunday. WHat is a good amount of weight to lose every week?

    4. My goal is about 2 pounds a day. The way I do it is, I am hardly ever not working out and only eat breakfast and dinner NEVER LUNCH! I also am on a very strict diet and if I eat more than 100 cals a day I'll punish myself with an hour long ice bath. Also I only eat on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Sunday.

Being skinny is not beautiful, it looks unhealthy. Don't abuse your health & the one life you have been given. Eat sensibly, stay active and maintain a good healthy body.     9. In general, pills don't help. I have tried some of these and the only one I found at all helpful (can't remember its name) was a caramel/chocolate candy: You ate one 30 mins. before meals; once in your stomach, it expands and makes you feel less hungry; you won't go back for second helpings.

    10. THAT'S the way Princess: Pills of Vitamins (and mineral - good for brain. You will feel better, no headaches and with energy WITHOUT getting weigh). Eat the less and take that pills. And...they discovered that if you make workouts not too long (just 3 times a day just 10 minutes) is better than to be working out 40 minutes!! - Just 10 minutes 3 times a day: No great efforts!! and better results. If you eat NO CARBOHYDRATES!! NEVER!!- Only veggies. No fruits (they have sugar, that is Carbohydrate)- Chocolates: NO!!! (It's poison!!). Instead of laxatives use Vaseline (i know is disgusting) but vaseline avoids to get extra food into yor body and at the same time is a natural laxative. You eat a salad? NO OIL, just vaseline, lemon and pepper (spicy things increases the metabolism). Iced water in the morning with a spoon of apple vinegar. And Proteins: TUNA (with no oil), just vinegar and pepper.

WILL ruin teeth. even if you never purge, are purely a restrictionist, your teeth and gums will rot. if you purge, it happens far earlier and at a rapid rate. do you have the money, the insurance, the lack of fear of having your teeth pulled again and again, the fortitude to risk the systemic infections from serious dentistry etc etc....

    It likely rots your teeth because you're not getting any of the vitamins that you NEED! Please, please, please, if you choose to harm yourself this way, at least take care of your nutritional needs. A multivitamin as well as a calcium supplement in the morning. Not a lot of calories, and your body will at least be getting some nutrients.

    Don't use synthetic vitamins, care about yourself enough to get a food based multivitamin like "megafoods women's daily." So just take a food based multivitamin and a calcium vitamin and your nails, hair and teeth will stay healthy and better.

    I'm sorry you have an eating disorder, please find help and please at least listen to me about a multivitamin and a calcium vitamin. :(

    2. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news; but vitamin and mineral supplements should always be taken with FOOD. Otherwise, your body does not know what it has just ingested and may just "pass it along" as not digestible. But with food - doesn't have to be a 6 course dinner - a few sips skim milk works - the digestive system recognises the milk (or whatever) as food, goes to work on processing it, the supplement with it.

      My doctors and pharmacists told me this over the years; may be total bull but why chance it? Eat (drink) a bit of something with your vits.

    1. Have 200 cals for breakfast 400 - 500 for lunch and 400 -500 for dinner if you feel like your going to binge have some fruit or green tea. after a few days start to reduce the amount of cals in your meals and evantually you should have the will power to skip meals

    1. I know it's hard, but I just stopped eating. everytime I wanted to eat regular food or sweets or anything with calories at all, I kept thinking
      "look at your thighs and your tummy for a while. still wanna eat?"
      "everytime yo say no to food, you say yes to skinny"
      "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels"
      and things like that. the only thing I eat all day is dinner with my parents, cause I live with them and I have to keep up the facade. But at dinner I try to eat as little as I can (without making them suspicious of course). The only thing I consume all day before dinner is tea and black coffe. Also, I weigh myself every day, and it's a real trigger to continue when you see the numbers dropping day by day!

    1. try keeping yourself really busy. Stay away from all food. Sleep as much as possible because it makes your metabolism higher and you won't be eating. If you have to eat excersize right after to burnoff all te calories, but you shuld be excersizing anyway

    1. i have the same problem, what i can suggest is:
      -try telling them you ate earlier/before/someone bought you something
      -when you're eating, use a smaller bowl/plate so it looks like you're eating more
      -eat VERY slowly, but drink heaps of water, so it seems like you're having more
      -maybe try putting a very small portion on your plate, and once you finish it, take another small half portion so it seems like you're eating more
      -if you go to a sleepover you can fast and pretend you ate at home

      last option i guess is to agree to have whatever calorie loaded, fatty, food they give you and then work your butt off to get rid of it

I'm new to Ana i have always had depression and anxiety every since i was a teen I've been fasting and eating very little for a week now what triggered my ana was a big fight with my sister and my family turning on me because of it and my bf broke up with all in a months time. I currently weight 332 lbs and I hate what I've become for eating to much to comfort pass depression problems when I see myself I'm a fat cow is what I am and I hate it the foods I use to see as comforting is now disgusting i hate to look at myself I'm huge and ugly :-(

  51. I had an eating disorder last year... I lost 20 kgs (44 pounds) but then I was forced into recovery and I've gained about 8 kgs now. I'm on day 3 of a 0 calorie fast right now because I don't want to be fat anymore.
    The way I did it last year was 400 calories a day, three 600ml bottles of water a day, working out, and cold showers. I did result to purging in recovery but it didn't work for me very well.

    1. hi! dont worry it didnt work out for me at first either. but ive lost about ten pounds in a month fasting. my mom wasnt around and my dad didnt really care. im also on sports so that helps out too. i suggest you do the same. dont worry it WILL take time. if it doesnt happen as fast as you want it to just keep on going. then once you get there you can take a day or two break. then you can start again for a week of fasting. then take a day off. thats what im doing and its working great for me. good luck! :)

      ps if youre fasting and you start to feel really dizzy or lightheaded or whatever, eat even just two bites of an apple. or if you really dont wanna eat drink a glass of water. you wouldnt wanna pass out cuz then your parents will have to take you to the hospital then everyone will find out. never let anyone find out.

  61. is is my second day on pro ana. yesterday i had a 100cal of fish fillet,8 bottles of water...2 with apple cider vinera and a tsp of honey in it.plus in the morning i had 2 cups of coffee. i didn't eat before 3pm and i stop eating @6pm. i'm very hungry but i'm drinking lots of water with apple cider vinegar. i weight 140pounds and i want to get to 95pounds. i'm always being natural skinny and since i thought i could afford to pig out ...i ate like a pig and now the weight has caught up to me.since i'm keeping my self busy my hunger is going away.

    2. well, you are right, that the other saying you are stupid is wrong since anorexia is an illness which not only affects the body, but also the mind ...i think a mental illness is a really complicated thing cos it's very difficult to cure and the one affected can rarely cure it on his own
      but saying "you can't help it" is also quite wrong ... that's just taking the easy way out ... i also used to say "i can't" whenever i thought i couldn't do something, but i never even tried or really gave it my all so how dare i say "i can't"

      the problem with lovely ana is that first off, most try to loose weight for all the wrong reasons and in all the wrongs ways .... if you wanna change your body you do it for yourself and yourself only ... not to look LIKE someone and not to be accepted by others or be liked by others ... not even to be liked by ana herself ....
      and then there is the way you try to loose weight, or rahter to get rid of it ... starving is the "easy" way to loose weight ... loosing weight by just eating healthier and doing some sport is much more difficult and needs more self discipline and it takes longer ...but it's healthier, which means it comes without all the negative effects of starving ... if you starve it deprives your body of nutrition it needs to funtion and nutritions it needs to look good

      hope to be thin is perfectly understandable .. i mean who doesn't in this modern society? ... but looking thin and beautiful is something completely different than looking starved and like a skeleton with hair all over your body, which your body grows when you reach a certain level of starvation to keep your body warm .... is a starved hairy thing really what you wanna look like?

      i don't have anorexia myself so i won't judge ... i imagine it's a difficult illness to have so all i can do is wish you the best and hope someday you will like yourself and what you see when you look in the mirror ... just don't forget that you are more than your body =) ... you are a human, who might be good at singing or maybe horrible at it ... maybe you are good at drawing or you just wish to be ... do you like cats? or maybe dogs? ... or maybe you like or dislike both ? ...

      i was once a mobbing victim ... had lots of issues with myself, i hated myself ... had thoughts about suicide ... but i din't give up ... for once i didn't say "I can't" ... and now i'm a young humurous woman, whith maybe a bit too much fat here and there, but all in all i really like myself

I just made the Sacred Heart soup today and will start the diet tomorrow, Today I cut my meal into very small bites and drank water after every 3 bites. It was so disgusting to see how my friends wolfed down theirs in 5 mins...i used to do that. I am 5'2" and 142lbs. I am 44 yrs old and have 2 kids one was c-section. Please help me do this .   94. I am 5'3 and i am 127 lbs. I told my parents I was going 'vegan'. it helps, they dont give me anything with milk or meat in and let me make my own dinners which are usually salads. I walk my dog 6 times a day for hours at a time. i was 140 pounds. the Vegan card usually helps me and have to tell the folks something!

  105. I'm on day 5 of my eating healthy. I think day five lol but I weigh 154lbs πŸ˜– and I'm 5'6". My goal weight is 115lbs for now. Once I hit that goal I will go to 100lbs. Skinny is beautiful to me. So is bigger. But not on me. Skinny looks better on me. After this week is over I am starting the following Monday, a water fast. Well and I'll drink green tea. But I am fasting for 21 days. I will do it. I suffer from anorexia and binge eating disorder. HA but BYE BYE binging and hello ANA TO STAY FOREVER.

  110. I know about a new way to get slimmer fast (but it's a lil' dangerous), so you can do it for no more than a month and then return to diets. It's called "drunkorexia". The point is this. Alcohol will not make us to gain weight unless we eat, SO: drink alcohol (never combined with Carbohydrates and not any alcohol but those who do not have sugar, like vodka+ water and lemon, champagne extra brut, tequila (you know: white alcohol) and do not eat anything while you do that. It's dangerous because we starve BUT (there is a trick), Take 2 pills a day of Vitamins and mineral. Vitamines NEVER will make u to gain weigght and it will give u all you need to sustain starvation without gaining weight. I started it a week ago and I lost 4 pounds and i feel great! I am not fat, I know but i LOVE BONES!! That's my issue. Do not do this for more than a month (you can fall into Alcoholism ansd ppl with notice that). - So this is the Plan. Just drink alcohol without sugar, no eating, 2 pills a day of vitamins and minerals (to avoid diseases fron starvation) and if you need to eat because you are hungru, just esat veggies (pumkins, broccoli, tomatoes, zuchinis, etc) NO FRUITS!! (they have sugar!!). But Please Princess, do it for one month. Then back to diet and the next month you can do it again. Just beware you do not get into Alcoholism. It works. It's "Drunkorexia" and everyone will tell u it's terrible, Well, they lie!! And another thing.: dont do it for for than 4 times in a year. Come on my Queens, we can be what we want , It's just a matter of WILL!! Keep that red bracelets wil proud!!
