Binge Prevention

  1. Whenever you eat (normal eating), stop throughout the meal and count to 100 or set the food down and do something else for at least a minute. This will help you practice stopping eating and will make it easier to stop yourself when you start to binge.
  2. If you live alone, do not keep "bad" foods in your house. If there are things you'd be tempted to binge on cover the box with a thinspo/reverse thinspo picture or cover it so only the nutrition facts are visible.
  3. If you catch yourself binging, immediately throw the rest of the food in the toilet and flush it. The trash can will work but the toilet is better because there's no way you can go back and get another bite.  You will feel very powerful and in control. It's not wasting food either because no matter how you look at it it all ends up in the toilet anyway!
  4. Try to get away from all or nothing thinking. One mistake doesn't ruin your whole day and no matter what you've already eaten it is still better than more and half a box is a HUGE difference than a whole box. Every calorie counts! Instead of just giving in try to salvage the rest of the day with negative calories and exercise so you end it on a good note.
  5. Never say, I'll do better tomorrow. Say, I'm doing better NOW!
  6. If you find yourself binging all the time or constantly feeling the urge to binge try increasing your daily calorie intake. a daily intake of 600 calories that you can maintain is better than a daily intake of 400 with a couple 1,000-calorie binges thrown in.
  7. Try thinking about other foods if a particular craving is too intense, you will switch to wanting the other food you thought about and then you can distract yourself from that. It's not just filling time though you have to get your mind off it completely (but only for less than a minute!) and you won't want it.
  8. If you don't want to increase calories, try increasing the frequency of meals without increasing calorie intake. If you're less hungry you will think more rationally about what you eat even if you are still consuming very few calories. Check the safe food list for snacks to keep you on track.
  9. An occasional sudden jump in calorie or food intake can actually help you overcome plateaus (when weight loss stops for no apparent reason) by increasing metabolism and digestion and helping bring your body out of famine mode. However, keep it controlled, decide what and how much you will eat in advance, and choose foods with nutritional value. Be careful with this if you are prone to compulsive eating. Also this method is not always predictable and you can still gain weight, especially if the calorie increase is too dramatic or if your metabolism is damaged or slowed.
  10. If you binge do not dwell on it, just immediately start thinking proactively and distract yourself with positive thinking and activities. Negative thinking, especially guilt feelings, can become a cycle of thought and behavior. Do something that will get you back in the thin mindset and just focus on what you are doing now and in the near future.
  11. Emotional eating is a leading cause of weight gain. Emotional eating happens when you subconsciously associate the food with an emotion, such as love, comfort, security, etc. If you suspect you eat emotionally keep a log of your emotions along with your food, focusing especially on those occurring before, during, and after eating. Identifying the feelings leading to a binge can help you identify what the food represents to you and find something to replace it.
  12.  Buy a couple bags of raw mixed veggies. Before you binge, you must eat either one or both of the bags. You also must eat 1 serving of brown rice. By now you should either be too full to binge, or if you are still craving, only be able to eat a little bit of the bad food.
  13. Whenever you make food, arrange it carefully so it looks beautiful. This will help you pay more attention to your food and how much you're eating. It also gives you time to reconsider eating it.
  14. Eat in the same place every day. At the table is best, not in your room or in front of the TV or computer. Focus especially on the first three bites; after that any pleasure from eating subsides. Chew each bite carefully, 10-30 times, and count. These are good habits to get into that will help you stop binging, or at least slow you down.
  15.  Allow yourself to have ONE SERVING of a crave food. Plan in advance when you will have it and how frequently you're allowed to have them (once a week, once a day, etc). Even pastries or high-calorie treats will probably be under 400 calories. You can adjust the rest of the day's food around the craving food. This will keep you from deprivation-induced binging, and teach you to indulge in a non-binging, pre-planned, controlled way.
  16. Keep your hair, nails, and makeup done. Dress well and make sure you always look your best. Keeping a perfect image will motivate you to eat perfectly, and remove suspicion that anything is wrong with you. Waking up early to get ready burns calories too.

  1. Oops. You made an error! Throwing food in the toilet is very wasteful if the nutrients your body needs to survive haven't been taken out of it. Take it to your nearest homeless shelter and volunteer to work in their soup kitchen, while you're there.

At the same time, both points can be made here. Donating foods that you can't control binges with....for instance if I bought say a box of poptarts from the store because I just couldn't resist buying them; then got a grip of myself once I got home with said box. Instead of throwing them out, stick them in a bag and immediately get rid of them. Take them to a neighbor, give them to a house / family member with strict instructions that they are to be out of the house one way or another and not to allow you to have any. (Bought a dozen donuts from the store one day on impulse, got them home, and just didn't get around to eating any of them. The next morning, I woke up and all but two had been eaten. I was kinda annoyed, cause I bought them for myself, but when my sister said "sorry, we couldn't resist." I kinda smiled, and said, "go ahead and get rid of the last two before I can get my hands on them." 30 minutes later, I couldn't resist anymore, and went back for those two donuts, and both were gone already. I was annoyed at the wasted money since I didn't get to have one, but in the end was more thankful that I wasn't able to binge on them like I might have if they hadn't been eaten.)

    5. Just think of what you could be if you didn't eat... Then tell yourself you are not aloud to eat something if you calorie intake is more then 370g. It works for me.

      Delete
    6. Good grief. Does anyone that posts on here know English and HOW TO USE IT? It's ALLOWED not 'aloud and it's THAN 370g not 'then' 370g. If you're going to be stupid about how you eat (because doing anything Pro Ana IS STUPID, then at least get your spelling right when you're talking about it!

    9. You mean "grammar", not "English".
I mean, if you're going to be calling others out without knowing their situations, maybe you should at least know the proper term for what you're whinging on about.

Keep in mind for the future, not everyone has the same level of educational access, some people have learning disabilities, some people speak/type a certain way as part of their ethnic background - respect everyone, even if they can't or won't communicate like you. You don't know their situations.

    10. Hi, I wanted help with something. I was diagnosed anorexic 2 months ago and since have increased my daily calorie count from 100 to a plus sum of 900, and now it feels like I'm addicted to eating again. I want to stop though. I want to get back to who I was before recovery. Help!!

  2. Here's a tip that helps me a lot: keep a bottle of mouth wash at eye level in your fridge, such that it's the first thing you see. Whenever you want to eat, gargle mouthwash first, and the urge will disappear.

  5. Hi, I have a few ideas? I'm not "pro-Ana", I'm pro-control as a lack of control is ultimately responsible for anorexia. And if you want to be in control, it's just smart to understand whats' in your food to begin with.

What are your thoughts for CLEAN EATING?

Watch the high fructose corn syrup and hormones in your food. Dairy has calcium which is supposed to be really good for you because they block fat absorption? The trouble with dairy is that dairy farmers inject cows with Gnrh to get the cows to produce more milk and then the cows get cysts on their ovaries. Then the "raw" milk goes for a really high price when the FDA didn't do it's job.

Gnrh + insulin play off of each other, then trigger each other. Your body needs water to break triglycerides down in the mitochondria for fuel (which requires carnitine which is made when your body signals thyroid T3)... insulin blocks the 'hydrolysis" of fat and your body shoots off way too much insulin when it's deficient in riboflavin and T3 (from the thyroid).

The process of gaining weight or fat accumulation is called lipogenesis. Lipogenesis from a slow metabolism is actually the breeding ground for cancer. People who gain weight before they get cancer are often victims of a slow metabolism.

Too much insulin triggers not only fat gain, but LDL gain and inflammation as the thymus has insulin receptors (and anti-POMC receptors that kills the metabolism).
Also, don't want too many omega 3's unless the thyroid is active and you've got riboflavin in your system. Omega 3's are supposed to increase leptin levels (through IRS) because Omega 3s' trigger insulin. But with slow thyroid and low riboflavin, your body can't produce short chained fatty acid dehydrogenase that breaks down the short chained fatty acids. Leptin breaks down BIOAVAILABLE mid-chained fatty acids. (anorexics don't eat fats or anything for that matter and they still have mid chained fatty acids).

    About that insulin, Google "diabulemia".

When your body has little leptin, your body can't break down the mid chained fatty acids.
Acetyl CoA Carboxylase I believe + mid chained fatty acids increase ghrelin?
Ghrelin is the "hunger hormone". Ghrelin increases NPY-Y5r (and CART) which are the exact peptides responsible for cocaine addiction.
Thyroid trick? Maybe phosphorus, calcium (fights cortisol levels? blocks feedback loop that releases Parathyroid hormone), iodine...they say that Niacin slows down the metabolism but it puts away the free fatty acids that tell the body to slow down the metabolism. Parathyoid hormone is not good, your body releases it when it's pushed too hard. It causes rhabdo- a severe form of low blood sugar, Cross fit trainers know all about this. Recovering from rhabdo CAN cause weight gain.

    1. (cont) ---there's still more (sorry about the novel- there are a lot of details)

BTW, it's cited that niacin deficiency triggers tobacco addiction. Magnesium and Zinc are great for you. Body needs B vitamins but if your metabolism is slow, muscarenic receptors trigger bile salt release to where the ileum can't absorb the b vitamins and adenosine A1 receptor - to slow the body's metabolism down. The only defense I'm aware of, are Vitamin B shots and magnesium.

I strongly do not recommend recreational drugs. Why? First off, being a clean eater means you care very much about what you put in your body and a lot of street drugs are not quality controlled. And they're expensive, corrupt, etc.
Two, remember that ghrelin business? Well, many people who quit drugs gained soooooo much weight.
This is the very best diet advice I know. The nutrition technically becomes a chemistry equation where it keeps the metabolism going and if you're active, you can still lose weight. If you click on this link, I will tell you that every skinny person I know who eats - they eat exactly like this picture portrays.
      http://www.onemedical.com/blog/eat-well/healthy-plate/

All the hype about oils, ketones, etc. Gimmicks. Saturated fats have been said to increase leptin levels where unsaturated fats do not, and they both trigger insulin release and cause weight gain.

      Here are a few ideas:

If you're baking- back in WWII people substituted apple sauce for oil because it was cheaper. But it's also healthier. Apples = 90 calories per cup, oils = 1000+ calories per cup.

Rice cakes. 40 calories each. I'm not totally in favor of "dense" foods, because your body releases oleyl- a bioavailable form of mid chained fatty acids to give your body that "full" feeling. I can't go there because I have an endocrine issue, but it's technically the encannaboid receptor. Pot blocks it, so they keep eating. And may stay thinner. That mid chained fatty acid triggers insulin release because it has that "full" signal.

  6. Pasta, IN MODERATION. plain pasta releases the least insulin out of all carbs.
You need carbs, but carbs must be very portion controlled.

ALMOND MILK- UNSWEETENED. The best brand is sold at Trader joes in the dairy section and it has tricalcium phosphate in it. It has 40 calories per cup where milk has 140 calories. Also, calcium is great for acne.

I'm a vegan, I know that meats can carry cortisol which isn't good for the metabolism.

Also, clean eating does prevent autoimmune diseases. Which is important. ALL of the drugs that the doctors give you for either autoimmune symptoms (glucocorticoids) or metformin, or statins- they slow down your metabolism. Metformin will cause weight loss because it makes you feel sick, but it releases insulin and many who stop it gain the weight right back.

Autophagy triggers signals that tell the body to slow down the metabolism. The best defense I personally know of are Vitamins E and C and maybe even phosphates and calcium (and Vitamin D). I personally don't agree with the reversitol (red wine). But mitochondria is essential to burn ATP for fuel and antioxidants fix the free radical problem so the mitochondria works properly.

Soak dried almonds/nuts are my favorite- I even toast them when I can. I actually boil or soak them in warm water enough to get some of the fats out of them, then DEHYDRATE them since cooking can take out the nutrients. This helps the body absorb the minerals in the foods better without the high calorie count.

But back to energy in glucose and fats.

    Here's how it works.
    Adenosine Triphosphate = ATP
    Adenosine Diphosphate = ADP
    Adenosine Monophosphate = AMP
ATP is the energy currency, ADP is the fuel to burn energy. A high ATP/ADP ratio triggers high insulin release? AMP signals the body that it's in a low energy state.

Glucagon increases adenyl cyclase and cAMP. cAMP triggers hydrolysis of fats for fuel. Then from there, it releases things like eNAC (that triggers ghrelin release), or AMPK (shoots of insulin and Malonyl Coa that blocks carnitine which blocks weight loss for energy). And c/EBP. c/EBP blocks leptin, it tells the mesenchymal stem cells to trigger adipose (FAT) tissue instead of bone, cartilage, muscle, nervous system, red blood cells, etc.
Metformin releases AMPK to trigger insulin release. It's only good if your blood sugar is wicked high. But cardiovascular exercise such as running can keep the blood sugar low. The medical community got it wrong to benefit metformin makers Bristol Myers Squibb for profiteering purpose in exchange for bribes.

Estrogens, some fats, some uncooked veggies slow down that thyroid. You really want the thyroid to work properly regardless of how much fat you have.

But anyways, that's a gist of what I learned. My biggest problem here is not just the endocrine issue, it's a budget and restrictions to my living situation where I can't prep food in the house with an oven or stove.

Maybe this will help you, maybe not. But I will tell you, a few years ago in the Bay Area- I noticed that many of the few non-obese people there were "Fresh off the boat" immigrants who ate their cultural diets made from scratch. Some have doubled their body weight from eating "american" food. Europeans can't handle the heavy fats in our foods, others criticize the sugar content.

You get the gist. Many people are shaping up, which is great. But the idea is not necessarily "anorexia" but you get the gist.

I'm just hoping we all figure this out despite biased "research" and conflicts of interest because good information keeps people healthy, fit and away from ugly medical expenses.

    Cheers!

  7. I was so thin in high school, very disciplined. One piece of toast for breakfast, a diet soda for lunch and something very small for dinner. I was beautiful, but now I'm obese and fat! My medication for my health problems tell my stomach I'm always hungry, it won't go away. High school reunion is coming up and I'm ashamed. I want to be thin again.

  24. this is helpful. I was doing great. when I first started dieting it was1,200, then it went to 800-900, then it went to 600-700, and now im doing great on 250-500 (usually 300-500) calories, but I just had a HUGE HUGE HUUUUGE binge! it was 2 granola bars, macaroni and cheese, crackers, gingerale, a shit ton of soy nuts, some sour cherry sucking candies, and a huge fucking fatty piece of pork chop that was in the fridge. I feel 100% better knowing some good and useful binge prevention tips for next time.
after a binge the first step is always to forgive yourself and tell yourself that just because of a stupid binge you cant break your diet. I think that's a great tip because I know if I just get too guilty its like im at the brink of throwing away my diet, which isn't a good thing.. ive looked up what to do the next morning after a binge and that gave me some relief as well. but everytime I binge, it always teaches me that more improval is needed, and there is ALWAYS ROOM FOR IMPROVAL :)

  26. I need an ana buddy!!! Please please. I'm almost 20 years old. 5'11" and about 196-197lbs. I have struggled with my weight since I was 7. I know I'm on the right track... I just need to keep going. I want to be 140lbs. I'm traveling NZ right now but I'm headed home on Christmas Eve. I was recently sorta bulimic for 2.5 months then quit. Managed a week of healthy eating, then binged and decided to go the ana route. Today is day 11. I've binged once. Yesterday actually. Today I'm fasting.

HW: 240lbs Junior year of High School
LW: 189 Fall of 2013 during rowing in college
    CW: 196-197lbs
    GW: 150
    UGW: 140

Email me:) It helps if we're similar heights:) And female of course:)

  33. your blog is the very helpful literally thank you for existing and thank you for the blog haha xx.

  34. i'm sorry but this is disgusting. you're encouraging people to not eat, people NEED to eat! you're basically giving people tips on how to kill themselves. don't tell me i don't understand what it's like to think that you'd rather be dead than fat, i have anorexia and have just got out of hospital (was in for 6 months) and this has triggered me into oblivion. my 400 calories a day now seems like too much and i feel so guilty and greedy and fat thanks to this. but thats the intention, making vulnerable people feel greedier than they already do so that they don't eat and lose weight. who knows, this blog might have been made just for yourself but you're giving tips so clearly not. don't say people won't find it without looking because guess what, i did! and young kids could too.. you are evil.

    1. Although throwing up is mostly for mias, it's AMAZING for when you binge. Here's how to do it... properly.
wash your pointer and middle finger, put some toilet paper on the surface of the toilet(so the throw up will not splash back up in your face), now it may seem disgusting but you need to put both your pointer and middle finger as deep down your throat until you can touch this little flappy thing and that should do it. You need to really focus on what you're doing and don't be reluctant when throwing up because it will be harder with the wrong mindset. If this doesn't work, get some warm water and put salt in it.. it'll just come right out. If using your fingers is too much for you then your the back of your tooth brush.
Tips: To protect your teeth from the acid, brush your teeth before you purge NOT after!! Afterwards rinse out your mouth with water as if gurgling(helps prevent puffy face caused by acid)and chew gum. Brush teeth approx 30 minutes afterwards.
Recommended position: stand up and bend over toilet (gravity helps get the food out)
      Hope this helps! XOXO

  42. Good idea! It really helps a lot to those who are really wants not to gain weight. It takes hardship, motivation and perseverance to do this. To those who are having an eating disorder specially binge eating this will help in many ways. It is not easy to do this all by yourself but with the help also with your friends, family and love ones. You need a support system.

  43. If I don't want to eat something because I'm not really hungry, I take a vitamin with iron, such as women's one a day, because the iron can upset your stomach. Some people are more immune, but I always get really nauseated. Also, it will insure you're getting enough vitamins.

  44. I'm not trying to be like one of those people who just comes on pro ana websites just to lecture, but please be EXTREMELY CAREFUL with these diets. When you get below 200 a day, you're risking serious permanent damage.

  51. If any of you are having trouble losing weight, try Vega one protein nutritional supplement. 2 servings of this gives you all your daily nutrients. You won't even have to work out to lose weight. This has curbed my binges sooo... much, however it needs unsweetened almond milk to taste good. For extra vitamins I add organic spinach. It has helped me lose 15 pounds in 4 weeks

I'll check this daily for replies but as of right now, I can't give anyone my email in fear that my family, boyfriend or friends will find out some how.
    I'm 5'4, 127lbs(I know,ehh.)

  67. If you ever find yourself buying a crave food, if it's non perishable donate it to a food drive or something like that. Look up organizations to help end world hunger. Whenever you're at the store and want to buy a bad food, if you resist buying it, donate the price of that item to your hunger organization. Avoiding binges helps end hunger!

  72. I do school online and so I'm at home all day almost everyday. It's difficult to not to binge when food is right there and there's no one else in the house. I exercise in my room for 2-3 hours each day, and when I'm motivated I eat just some soup or salad in the evenings. But staying motivated and not giving in to cravings is a huge problem.
